The SMONAGENES UB study center is derived from the strands of the word “Smart Molecules of Natural Genetics Resources. In Bahasa, translated into “Molekul Cerdas Berbasis Sumber Genetik Alami”
The study center was founded in 2008 starting from the departmental working group, developing into an interdisciplinary research group since 2012 at the university level, and is now currently the center of interdisciplinary studies and open to anyone since early 2018.
The SMONAGENES UB study center focuses on intelligent molecular-based research from Indonesia’s local genetic sources and the development of research products that benefit the wider community, without reducing existing local wisdom. This study center opens to collaborate with any parties, domestic and foreign stake holders, based on ABGC, namely Academic-Business-Government to Community, and SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) from the UN especially at SDGs number 2 & 3 in achieving better food security and nutrition “and ensuring a healthy life and supporting welfare for all ages.
Since February 2019, there was a change in the organization structural, and as a new leader of SMONAGENES, I will continue to pursue SMONAGENES goals, its vision and mission. Hopefully, in the future, SMONAGENES will always be the leading research study and be pioneering in the development of exploring smarts molecules form natural genetic resources.
